Universal Finds its Count for ‘Dracula: Year Zero’ Role

Dracula image 9Universal, the studio that has such a long heritage of horror films is resurrecting one of their own once again as their Count Dracula has been found for their upcoming, Dracula: Year Zero film.  The Fast and Furious 6 heavy, Luke Evans has been tapped to portray the king of the vampires in the film to be directed by first time director Gary Shore.

According to Variety, Universal Pictures is looking to take its “Fast and Furious 6” baddie, Luke Evans, and have him play one of the horror genre’s greatest villains. The thesp is set star in “Dracula: Year Zero.”

Gary Shore is on board to direct with Michael De Luca producing. Alissa Phillips will serve as executive producer.

The story is a mix of mythology and true history as it follows the story of Prince Vlad, the inspiration for the Dracula character popularized by the Bram Stoker novel.

Matt Sazama and Burk Sharpless wrote the latest draft of the script. Vice President of Production Anikah McLaren and Creative Executive Jay Polidoro will oversee the project for Universal.

Though “The Wolfman” didn ‘t generate the kind of box office the studio had hoped for, U is still looking to tap its large library of horror classics and reimagine them for contemporary audiences.
