Another title I bought on a whim earlier this month. It has definitely been my most interesting purchase so far. I’m really on the fence with this review. Find out why below!
Title: Everyone Must Die!
Director: Steve Rudzinski
Writers: Steve Rudzinski, Derek Rothermund
Cast: Nicole Beattie, Nick LaMantia, Scott Lewis, Seth Gontkovic, and Aleen Isley
Run Time: 1 hour, 11 minutes
Everyone Must Die! is a microbudget indie slasher flick. The plot follows, “A pattern of similar killings that occure, leaving small towns aghast with grief and suspicion. When the massacre left Kyle’s sister dead, he vowed to solve the mystery behind the gruesome pattern of slaughter and find out where this seemingly death-proof killer will strike next. A tale of gore spreads from town to town, person to person, and kill to kill, leaving nobody safe because after all… EVERYONE MUST DIE!”
Oh, Everyone Must Die! What am I going to do with you?
I could literally go on for pages criticizing this movie. Nothing is consistent from plot points, to the acting, to the special FX. It’s almost like you can see the parts that Rudzinski created and the separate parts that Rothermund created. I mean, really, what the Hell is going on here? It’s almost as if Everyone Must Die! was shot in one day and pieced together in Windows Movie Maker. From people dying 1/2 second after being stabbed, to being “in the middle of no where” with cars driving by, to being shot COMPLETELY out of focus and with ISO being too high…it was all just one big mess.
HOWEVER! I ended up liking this flick, all be it not enough to give it a second watch. This is an amateur, rookie attempt at making a feature length film on a slim to none budget. With that in mind, I can appreciate what the cast and crew were trying to accomplish here. I give anyone with the courage enough to pick up a camera and show their film to the world a lot of credit because it’s not as easy as folks think it is. High points, while slim, include the witty dialogue and playful banter, the characters of Kyle (Nick LaMantia) and Jenny (Nicole Beattie), and the sexual orientation equality placed in the film.
IMDB has a 6.4 rating for Everyone Must Die! I’m going to go a little lower and give it a 6.0 even. But this was a great attempt at making a fun little horror-comedy.
