Halloween: Awakening review

Halloween is by far my favorite slasher franchise, so I’m always intrigued by fan films. That being said, my initial excitement was taken with a grain of salt once I realized this film was a sequel to Halloween: The Curse of Michael Myers. However, once I started watching it was apparent that most of the story line didn’t have anything to do with 6. (And it doesn’t mention the reason I dislike 6 so much, I won’t get into that, buuuut yeah, anyways..) the main connection between 6 and this fan film being little Steven Lloyd all grown up.

The masks in this movie were rather interesting. The Myers mask used in the beginning was strange, I’ve never seen one like it. I did, however, like the “prank” mask quite a bit more. The use of the Dr. Loo is mask in the opening scenes definitely threw me off, but it was clever. I loved that this movie brought back the old clown mask as well.

In my opinion the best part about this film was all the tribute scenes. My favorite being the opening credits, it’s a great throwback and I liked it. The other being the “celebrity in the morgue” scene. Overall, the story holds up pretty well, and I was pretty impressed.
