In August 2012, the creators of the Leslie Vernon character attempted to raise money for a sequel/prequel through Kickstarter. Despite being one of the most popular straight-to-DVD titles of 2006, the companies that produced and distributed Behind The Mask: The Rise of Leslie Vernon were not interested in shelling out any money for a follow up film. Unfortunately, the Kickstarter campaign only raised about 1/3 of its $450,000 budget goal…and the new movie has remained in limbo.
But that doesn’t mean this title is dead. Before The Mask: The Return of Leslie Vernon is still an interactive Facebook page where fans can chat with the creators. Every once and a while, they also spill the beans on their ideas to bring the franchise back to life. Fans are waiting for Before The Mask (or B4M), and here are the most recent developments in the upcoming sequel/prequel from Scott Glosserman.

*October 2013 – Robert Englund spoke about the plot of the movie at a horror-con, confirming his return as Doc Halloran.
*June 2013 – Hints at the new movie being partially found footage
