Wisp Act One Review

I was excited to receive a screener of this show, because I’ve never received a 3d bluray screener. I’ve also not heard much about indie TV, but I’m definitely going to be looking into it.

I’m also going to check out much more of director, Paul Gorman’s work. This show is way more captivating than about 90% of the crime show’s on prime time television these days. The episodes feel so short because the story sucks you in. This show is easy to binge watch in one sitting.

Time to break it down episode by episode before I start rambling…

Episode #1: Honeybee Part 1

I enjoyed that this show jumps right into the story, without having that awkward, dragged out, introductory pilot episode. This show relies on the story to grab your attention, and it works. It seems like every episode has one factor that cracks me up, and in this episode it was the overly long awkward silence between the detective and the shrink. oh, and I’m pretty sure one of the doctor’s books is about Slash.. At this point in the story I’m not a fan of the commissioner. I am however a fan of John Thomassen’s character. His introduction scene was pretty awesome. (who wouldn’t love a man with chewing tobacco, beer, and some sweet flip-flops) So far he is definitely my favorite character.

Episode #2: Honeybee Part 2

I gotta say the yellow creeper van is pretty sweet. The crazy hat lady was the one thing in this episode that had me giggling pretty good. on a more serious note, however, I’m loving the whole love triangle aspect. That had to be the calmest divorce fight EVER. These cliffhanger episodes are killer, they draw you into the next episode…

Episode #3: Alibis and Enemies

The sinister yellow creeper van strikes again! (I’m totally humming the Stanley Steamer jingle as I write this…) And the driver of said van has a pretty epic evil laugh, although the purple gloves kind of dampen the whole sinister effect. The story makes a pretty big leap and hits a pretty major twist. All of my guesses I’ve made thus far in the story we’re just doubted. The shrink totally has a book about Slash! (and several Harry Potter books, too.) Each episodes ending just gets better and better.

Episode #4: Comin’ Around…

My guesses were totally right, episode #3 was a total misdirection and I love it. Damn does John Thomassen’s character get creepy! I really enjoy watching the progression of the detective from a hardened detective to a total loony. The hat was pretty sweet though, and it was the one thing that made me laugh in this episode. I’m still not a fan of the commissioner, but I’m thinking that’s kind of the point. Once again, I have to say the story steps it up a notch. I’m impressed.

Episode #5: For the Sake of Survival

So I was pretty bummed when I realized I was on the last episode of part one, and I’m ready for part two. The yellow van makes it’s mighty comeback to make me second guess my doubt of who’s who in the show. I was half right about who I thought was the killer. The story keeps getting deeper, and makes another drastic twist. Now the question is who is the Tourist, and who is the Wisp? The ending of this episode was just cruel, but the bloopers at the end credits soften the blow a bit.
