Deadly Beauty: Horror’s Scream Queens and Rising Talent: Brittney Scalf

1383001_480613492035868_1424378783_n“My acting career didn’t really start until I was 18 years old. I knew I wanted to long before then. I was probably about 14 when I decided that this is what I want to do. Modeling came not long after.

I was born in Charleston, South Carolina and settled in Virginia when I was about 6 years old. I remember my first gig like it was yesterday. It was a commercial for Liberty Tax Service and their franchise opportunities. Not long after I got a small role on Wicked Attraction which aired on the Discovery ID channel.

Over time I started modeling more and meeting more people. I got cast in my first movie. I never knew how much fun I would have on a small, little to no budget, horror movie set. I promoted it at a horror convention and the rest was history. If you’re an actor, particularly in the horror genre, conventions are seriously the best way to meet potential talent and local film people. Even non local people, so many writers, directors, and producers travel from state to state to promote their own film and it’s great to meet these people.

Since then I’ve done several TV and film related projects and am continuing to grow and work more. I am spending the summer adding more work to my modeling portfolio.”*

Location: I’m located in the Hampton Roads area of VA.

1. How did you get into the industry?

I first really “got into” horror not by acting but being the little kid who loved watching 80s movies with my mom. The first horror movie that really stood out to me was Night of the Living Dead. I was amazed and I have been sort of obsessed with zombies and horror ever since. I was the kid who wanted to know he it was made and how they made the zombies look the way they did while making each and every one look different.

2. What Scream Queen inspired you the most?

Patricia Tallman was actually one of the first women in horror that sparked my interest. I love all women in horror really. Who doesn’t love a beautiful women drenched in blood? Ha, ha! Danielle Harris is another favorite. I love that she was cast in 4 and 5 and ended up making a great return for Rob Zombies version. I’d say she is a big if not the biggest influence when it comes to acting. She’s a great actress, she’s beautiful, and she produces great work all around. Who wouldn’t want to be like her?

3. What are the next couple projects you are working on?

I don’t have any projects lines up for the direct future. A lot of things are still in pre production. I’m just taking acting work as it comes right now. It’s hasn’t been that long sine I updated it really. But I like “I’m working more on my modeling portfolio right now. Since summer is here a lot of opportunities have risen for me.
