EMMY AWARD WINNER AND COLLECTIVE MINDS MEDIA LAUNCH KICKSTARTER CAMPAIGN FOR TERRIFYING ALIEN ABDUCTION FILM WITH A SOCIAL TWIST
Found footage horror has been done with kids hunting witches in the woods; it’s been done with demons and poltergeists. But this is no ghost story. Terrifying in a way that few other films are, ABDUCTEE explores the bizarre and misunderstood world of alien abduction. Through a first-person account, we come to know the fear and mental anguish that befalls a suburban man as he attempts to unravel the mystery of what happens to him when he is alone in the middle of the night … and disappearing for huge spans of time with no memory of what took place.
But this is not just a film – it’s a social movement. ABDUCTEE aims to be a new genre of horror that is so realistic and relatable, it wakes people up and breaks the silence about what’s really happening to them. It has been cited as the most frighteningly accurate portrayal of what abductees experience.
Can a horror film be therapeutic? Absolutely, say the experts. This project is a revolutionary attempt at uniting the underrepresented community of alien abductees and giving them a voice. Consultants Paranormal Expert James Smith and UFO Expert James Gilliland support the film and its involvement of the abductee community. “I think the movie as it is composed is a wonderful catalyst to bring … those subjects to light and lets people talk about it,” said James Smith.
Funding the film via Kickstarter will allow the filmmakers to produce a movie that enlists the support of abductees and alien experts from the ground up and will keep the film free of the control exerted by Hollywood executives and movie studios. It is the filmmakers’ goal to illuminate the terrifying, stigmatized world of alien abductees and provide them with a common bond to enable group support and healing. The finished film will be accompanied by a non-profit, online resource established by the filmmakers to share hundreds of thousands of real abductee accounts.
Writer/Director William Hopp was inspired to write ABDUCTEE after struggling with sleep paralysis for several years. After learning about the connection between sleep paralysis and alien abduction, he because obsessed with finishing the script. Once he completed it, his sleep paralysis immediately stopped – for over a year and a half. Now it’s suddenly back and Hopp knows it’s time for this story to be made. He reached out to Trisha Kirk, the Emmy Award-winning producer of A&E’s Intervention to collaborate on the project.
In a few short days since the Kickstarter campaign launch, the project has been featured at the Amazing Las Vegas Comic Con, its creators have been interviewed on the worldwide radio show 4 Real Encounters and are booked as panelists at the 4 Real Encounters Conference scheduled for July 18 – 20, 2014 to speak about the project. They are currently in negotiations to be featured on Coast to Coast. Click here to be part of this groundbreaking film and social movement.
William Hopp has committed to donating a portion of the profit from the Kickstarter campaign to the research and development of alien abductions in both a scientific and therapeutic fashion. His goal is to unify the abductee community by creating a non-profit, online resource that offers factual, easily accessible information and an easy way for abductees to connect with others like them, as well as psychologists and therapists in their area who can aid their healing process.
ABDUCTEE will only be funded if $140,000 is pledged by Monday, July 21, 2014 at 3:33am PST.
