This past Thursday morning, the 2014 Emmy Nominations were announced. In case you don’t know what the Emmy’s are, here is a quick recap – The Primetime Emmy Award is an American accolade bestowed by the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences in recognition of excellence in American primetime television programming. Now, with that out of the way, two of our favorite horror TV shows received some nominations. First of all, American Horror Story received an impressive 17 nominations, while The Walking Dead had only two nods and neither one of them was for makeup…unthinkable! Read on after the break for more details.

AMC’s darling, The Walking Dead has never received much recognition from the Academy for some reason, it’s like the Emmy’s hate the show when it’s regularly one of the best dramas on TV, period. In fact, The Walking Dead has only won two Emmy’s in its four year run so far, and those Emmy wins were for Outstanding Prosthetic Makeup for a Series, Miniseries, Movie, or Special. Those Emmy wins were well deserved as the makeup effects for the show are second to none from Greg Nicotero and his crew.

But this year, TWD was snubbed in the prosthetic makeup category. This to me is unthinkable as the zombie and gore makeup are the best I’ve EVER seen, and I’ve seen a lot. TWD received noms  for  and Outstanding Sound Editing for a Series.  However, Greg Nicotero and his amazing KNB Effects crew did garner a makeup nod for AMC’s other darling series Breaking Bad.

FX Network’s American Horror Story is a different story entirely. The series has always been a critical favorite and award winner since its inception in 2011. This season is no different as it received a whopping 17 Emmy nominations. All of its nominations are well deserved mostly because of the incredible acting and writing for the show.
