Starting your career off with a role in the Emmy nominated two-part movie Stephen King’s It is a pretty spectacular beginning. Just ask Chelan Simmons who was born in 1982 in British Columbia, Canada. The notoriety from being in such a cult production kept her career alive and well for many years to come, although it didn’t really begin to skyrocket until 2000. After cameo appearances on MTV’s “2gether: The Series” and “Special Unit 2,” Chelan Simmons landed a recurring role on “Edgemont” from 2001-2002. Once again the horror bug would come biting and Chelan returned to another iconic production, this time with a supporting role in the first Carrie remake in 2002.
In 2004 Simmons booked her second horror supporting role in Monster Island, a film which also starred Carmen Electra, Mary Elizabeth Winstead, LaLa Anthony, Nick Carter, and Adam West. She finished up another strong year of her career with a role in Snakehead Terror and two episode stints on “Smallville” and “Wonderfalls.” 2005 proved to be another successful year, and it’s also the year I first saw Chelan in a movie called Chupacabra Terror. Other noteworthy gigs from that year include guest spots on “Stargate Atlantis” and “Supernatural.” But, still, the best was yet to come even with a growing resume and mainstream recognition. Probably her biggest career achievement so far, Simmons landed a supporting role in Final Destination 3 in 2006.
After a two episode stint on “Psyche” in 2007, Simmons next appeared in the straight-to-DVD horror Wind Chill and a supporting role in Good Luck Chuck with Dane Cook and Jessica Alba. 2008 was a slow year for Chelan, with her only credit worth mentioning being a featured role in Ogre. Always being the one to jungle film and television, low budget horror and mainstream titles, Chelan was next seen in Ice Twisters and Malibu Shark Attack in 2009. During the same year she finished up her long running recurring role on ABC Family’s “Kyle XY,” a role she had held for 3 years.
So, where is Chelan Simmons now?
She kicked off the new decade with a supporting role in the well-received horror-comedy Tucker & Dale vs. Evil and with a bit part in Hollywood’s Percy Jackson & The Olympians: Lightning Thief. Since then she’s stuck mostly with television and her most recent credits include a recurring role on the only season of the CW drama “The LA Complex,” a recurring role on the 2012 season of “How I Met Your Mother,” and guest spots on “Grey’s Anatomy” and “Hannibal” in 2013.
Chelan has two films awaiting release, the first being the Soska Twin’s next feature, See No Evil 2, which is slated for release in October. The second film is an action-thriller called Assassin’s Fury, in which Simmons will play the lead, and it is due out in 2015.
