Blu Review – The Legend of Billie Jean: Fair is Fair Edition

I am and will forever be a fan of horror.  This genre is an amazing one but I sometimes venture out of my comfort zone to check out other films especially if they are from the 80s.  I was born in 86 with an older brother born 12 years before me so my favorite memories are of me and him watching 80s movies in the late 80s and early 90s.  A movie that I had heard of but never seen around that time was the 1985 film The Legend of Billie Jean starring Christian Slater and Helen Slater…who are not related.  When I heard that Mill Creek Entertainment would be releasing this fantastically 80s film on blu I had to see it.  As luck would have it they wanted me to review it and sent me a copy to check out and for that I thank you guys so much.

When I do my blu and DVD reviews I often review the film separately from the actual release and this blu review will not be any different so keep an eye out for the review of the film later.  My blu reviews focus on three things; the artwork and packaging, the transfer quality, and the special features.  So sit back and check out my thoughts on the Mill Creek release of The Legend of Billie Jean!

As a collector I am a sucker for artwork and packaging.  When the release does not have the original poster on the cover I often skip it until the company has another release or the film changes hands.  As for this release of The Legend of Billie Jean, the blu does have the original poster for the film that has been restored.  The colors are vibrant and they really pop.  That is a real plus for any collector.

The film’s restoration is decent but nothing spectacular.  The film looks great but compared to so many other films from that time and their blu releases it is a little on the sub-par side.  After watching the film I turned to YouTube to watch the film’s trailer which were piss poor in quality.  Most of these trailers and clips were VHS rips which was a huge difference between them and this blu release.  Though it was not amazing it was still well worth it.

Finally, this release does have one special feature.  That special feature is an audio commentary featuring Helen Slater and Yeardley Smith.  This is a valuable special feature but is a little bit of a let down considering this is the “Fair is Fair” edition.  I would assume the film would have a few more special features like interviews, tv spots, and so forth.  Overall, this is a solid release that deserves to be purchased and added to any collection.  Check it out!
