MonsterMan’s 31 Days of Halloween Horror Picks – October 14

Monsterman's 31 Days of Halloween Horror Picks

Mad Monster Party (1967)

This animated film is from Rankin Bass, the same people behind the classic Christmas shows Rudolph, the Red-Nosed Reindeer, Frosty the Snowman, Santa Claus Is Comin’ to Town and many more beloved holiday classics. Mad Monster Party never achieved the same level of popularity as the previously mentioned Christmas shows did, which is a shame because it’s such a great movie.

The film is a loving homage to practically every movie monster ever seen in film. They’re all there, Frankenstein’s Monster, Dracula, The Werewolf, The Creature, Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, The Invisible Man and many more. The voice talents are nothing short of legendary, including Boris Karloff, Phyllis Diller, legendary voice actor Allen Swift and more. This is another film the entire family can watch together to prepare for Halloween.

Mad Monster Party is written by Arthur Rankin Jr., Len Korobkin, Harvey Kurtzman and famed monster fan and publisher of Famous Monsters of Filmland magazine Forrest J Ackerman. It is directed by Jules Bass and stars the voices of Boris Karloff, Allen Swift, Gale Garnett, Phyllis Diller and Ethel Ennis.

Plot Synopsis

When Dr Frankenstein decides to retire from the monster-making business, he calls an international roster of monsters to a creepy convention to elect his successor. Everyone is there including Dracula, The Werewolf, The Creature, Dr Jekyll & Mr Hyde and many more. But Frankenstein’s title is not all that is at stake. The famous doctor has also discovered the secret of total destruction that must not fall into the wrong hands!
