Almost all horror fans are fans of metal. I grew up on a steady diet of Ozzy, Black Sabbath, Lynyrd Skynyrd, and Motorhead and that taste has grown into a love of all sub-genres of metal. However, what is strange is that very rarely does metal culture and horror mix. Sure, we get horror flicks that feature metals songs on it’s soundtrack but we rarely get horror films that feature metal culture as a plot point.
A few days ago several indie horror Facebook groups was blowing up over the short The Chunkblow. I had no idea what the short was about but the title made my mind wonder with all the possibilities. I reached out to the film’s Facebook page and they were kind enough to hook me up with a link to their online screener. Thanks guys!

**Spoiler Alert**The film begins with a beautiful milf making cherry pie and she listens to her golden oldies. Upstairs, her son and his friend roll up some cash to snort some coke with while they rock the fuck out and watch porn.
They start to headbang when suddenly one of them starts to feel strange. He stops rocking out and immediately starts bleeding out of his orifices before his guts spray forth from his body. Soon after a beast pops out of his body and attacks the milf’s son. **Spoiler Alert**
I absolutely love when a film embellishes metal culture and even succumbs to the cliches associated to the musical genre and the fans of it. Sadly, not a lot of films go this route because they want the characters to look like people you would normally not associate with horror. That is not the case with The Chunkblow. This short dives straight into the metal community and submerges itself in the cliches and I fucking loved it.
The acting in this one is not the best I have seen but it is far from the worst. The beautiful milf was very convincing in her role and seemed very natural in front of the camera. With that being said, the two metal heads feel like they are trying just a little too hard making their scenes almost laughable until the horror hits.
The story for this one is fun as hell and uses the film’s short running time to their advantage. The film does feel like it was inspired by Tales from the Darksideand Alien. This was fun and fit very well together creating a very effective short story.
Finally, the film on has one on screen kill but fuck do they milk it for everything that its worth. That kill is full of great practical effects that reminds viewers that practical is always better. The creature looks fun as well but does seem a little out of place when compared to the gore. It almost looks like a parody of the chestbusters from Alien that can be seen in Spaceballs. Overall, The Chunkblow is a damn fine short for you horror fans that like their films bloody. This is one short I highly recommend.
