BOSTON CORPSE: BUD MALONE #2 BY Wol-vriey

25683190I have reviewed the great and powerful WOL-VRIEY before and every time I am blown away by how much I love the next book even more than the last. This is the review for BOSTON CORPSE, followup to BOSTON POSH

It’s been quite an adjustment for the people of Boston getting use to their lives returning to some form of normalcy. The sentient Forks for whatever reason decided to turn Boston back into its thriving city, this time, without deadly dragons and dinosaurs causing chaos in the streets. Buildings are buildings again, no longer giant beetles that take flight, and Malone? Well Malone has his own adjustments to this but all in all is enjoying the calm. He’s goin on dates, albeit not very successful ones, but the man’s putting himself out there! When reports of people with teeth falling out acting not quite themselves, a new case unfolds before Malone, and now he must find out who or what is swiping bodies in Boston, and protect those along the way!

What’s calming for one is an opportunity for revenge for another! Lucy Tang is back and her and her gang are out for blood. Sookie’s blood more specifically. After releasing nightmare pods into the floors of Sookie’s casino, demons and horrible mutants terrorize the area scaring off Sookie’s men and killing a few. Stan, Sookie’s right hand man, survives and while he is on a mission to collect a debt from Ricky Rogers, Sookie sets out to end Lucy once and for all.
Ah Rick Rogers….Ricky, Ricky, Ricky. The poor man just doesn’t listen. I love his side story a lot. He has a debt he owes to Sookie, and Stan is hell bent on retrieving the money or removing his legs. On a mission to save his legs, Ricky turns to Soledad who suggests he talk to Anastasia Wormwood of the The Goad to help him out of his debt. She has one warning in regards to their encounter and that is to keep it in his pants. Just don’t fuck her and all will be well. Trusting the good witch, Ricky finds Anastasia and the world he encounters is filled with craziness and strange creatures like little metal crabs with baby faces that pour out of a giant demons vagina….ya know….crabkids….I LOVE THIS BOOK! He meets a big black snake man named Mr. Chews in this world and he’s entertaining. Things get increasingly more fucky for Rick and at it’s worst he sums it up nicely with the thought,“I’m existentially screwed”
Enter the bewitching Soledad Bathory and her masochistic cousin Slave. Soledad is a practicing witch and quite good at it. Sookie has Soledad summon a demon from The Goad (basically hell….beneath hell…) to kill Lucy. It’s mode of transportation is utilizing the bodies of animals and people to get close to Lucy in order to carry out the task of killing her. Well as can be expected, things go awry and now SWITCH (accurate enough name for a body swapping demon) is after Sookie.
With a demon after the wrong person, Soledad hires Malone to help her find SWITCH before any more damage can be done. With Malone on the case, his encounters along the way will make your head spin as with any good Wol-vriey novel. The man is certifiably insane in the best way as far as I am concerned. I absolutely love the Bud Malone series and pretty much love all the characters new and old introduced. Slave was a bit obnoxious and super manipulative in her unstable emotions for Malone which, to me, was awfully a fast fall into love. Every single character has a depth to them, and if you have ever read any Wol-vriey you know that there are going to be a million and one characters to get to know and the author truly knows hows to give substance to every player.
I love Sookie’s broken English and her sexy lesbian friends Dallas and TLC. Wol-vriey describes a very steamy scene in a bed with all these gorgeous ladies and hell, I was super turned on. The man just knows how to write!
Another note worthy element is The Goad, a hell world that can be brought forth via nightmare fruit pods (Or using the Hellevator…). When broken open, they release a yellow gas that turns the surrounding area into a playground for all sorts abominable creatures and terrifying nightmares. Here we meet an array of creepy characters and I love their cross over encounters with other people in the book. The parts where these pods are used are entertaining as hell! Start to finish this book is a spectacular follow up to Boston Posh. Looking forward to starting the third book in the Malone series, Boston Lust
