James Gosling’s The Hallow Score Released By Screamworks Records

HallowSoundtrackAlbumCoverJames Gosling’s original motion picture soundtrack to the indie creature feature hit, The Hallow, was released today by Screamworks Records. The soundtrack is now available on iTunes, Amazon, Spotify and Google Play and consists of 17 tracks.

The Hallow, directed by Corin Hardy, centers around a London conservationist Adam (Game of Thrones’ Joseph Mawle) and his wife Clare (Bojana Novakovic, Devil, Drag Me To Hell) as they move with their infant son to a remote house near the Irish forest and quickly find their new neighbors unwelcoming. The discovery of a gruesome “zombie fungus” growing in the house is just the beginning, as the surrounding woods spew forth a terrifying array of folkloric banshees, baby snatchers, and demons. Awash in the otherworldly atmosphere of a dark fairy tale, The Hallow cleverly toys with genre conventions while unleashing some of the most nightmarishly terrifying creatures in years.

When discussing how he came up with the film’s score Gosling says, “One of the first things I did was watch a bunch of horror films to see how composers had previously approached the genre. So I watched Alien again to pay particular attention as to how Jerry Goldsmith had approached it, similarly Aliens for James Horner’s take, The Thing for Ennio Morricone’s, and more contemporary films like Under The Skin and The Ring, and then I set about choosing a palette that I felt would help me best come up with my own take and from there it was a case of toying and teasing different ideas until something emerged from the deep.”

Composer James Gosling completed his masters in ‘Music for the Screen’ at the National, Film and Television School in Beaconsfield. After graduating from the NFTS, he went on to assist Rob Lane on projects like the HBO mini-series John Adams, BBC’s flagship fantasy-adventure series Merlin, and its successor Atlantis. Currently splitting his time between the UK and France, James is now working on Lego’s recently announced animation series Nexo Knights. You can learn more about him at www.jamesgosling.net
