Sources are beginning to report that famed director of photography, cinematographer and all around camera man Douglas Slocombe has passed away. The news was confirmed by his family members, stating that he passed away in his home in London today, February 22, at the age of 103! What a life to have lived!

Slocombe is most known for working with Steven Spielberg and Harrison Ford on Raiders of the Lost Ark (1981), Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom (1984) and Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade (1989). These movies, and many others, saw him nominated for three Oscars and ten BAFTAs, of which he won three.

Douglas also worked behind the scenes in a number of early horror titles including Dead of Night (1945), Scream of Fear (1961), Circus of Horrors (1965), The Fearless Vampire Killers (1967), The Return (1973) and scifi’s Close Encounters of the Third Kind (1977).

Just goes to show that your director of photography/cinematographer has just as much of an impact as your producer and director!

All of us at HorrorSociety.com send our condolences to his family, friends and fans.
