Lisa Freeman has worked in the entertainment industry in just about all fields, but I think you’ll be surprised to discover where she’s working now. After pursing education in creative writing and liberal studies, she momentarily left those fields behind to jump-start a career as an actress. Her career began as a bit part player in the early 1980’s, a time that saw her briefly appear on television shows like “Knots Landing,” “Quincy M.E.,” “Archie Bunker’s Place,” and “Reggie.”
It wasn’t until 1984 that Freeman got her first breakout role, when she played Nurse Robbie Morgan in Friday the 13th: The Final Chapter. Not quite a supporting character, but not a minor character either, Nurse Morgan was in the morgue after Jason Voorhees’ body was brought in, and his hand falling off the gurney put an abrupt halt to her make out session with Coroner Axel. Freaked out and after running into another room, Nurse Morgan knocks over a few jars and aptly starts cleaning up. The lights go out and she assumes its Axel, but it’s really a re-animated Jason, who disembowels her with a scalpel. Her body was then, coincidentally, stored next to her former lover’s. Friday the 13th: The Final Chapter was #1 movie during its opening week – ending April 9, 1984 – and became the 5th best selling entry in the franchise.
Also in 1984, Lisa played a supporting role in Savage Streets with Linda Blair. The following year she played the small part of Babs in the iconic feature film Back to the Future, a role she took up again in the sequel Back to the Future II (1989). Whether due to lack of interest from her or lack of interest in her, Freeman’s career stalled in the early 90’s with her last roles being cameos in “Doogie Howser, M.D.” in 1990 and “Bring Up Jack” in 1995.
So, where is Lisa Freeman now?
After leaving the acting world behind, Lisa pursued more behind-the-scenes and artist works as an educator, illustrator and radio personality. She also returned to her writing roots and released her first novel, Honey Girl, in March 2015 courtesy of publisher Sky Pony Press. The novel is a time capsule to 1972 and follows the coming of age story of a teenager surfer after she’s forced to move. It’s filled with angst, emotion and highlights the difficult path the character must face to find the place where her life will truly mean the most. It received rave reviews from AfterEllen.com and thee scream queen herself, Jamie Lee Curtis. A sequel is currently in the works.
