Dark Souls 3 Review

dark souls 3

The embers are dying out and the unkindled will rise to challenge the Lords of Cinder.. Will you succeed in your quest and keep the embers burning or will you be snuffed out like those before you?

Dark Souls 3 is the fourth installment of the brutal RPG series. It was developed by the japanese game studio From Software and published by Bandai Namco. Dark Souls 3 was announced shortly after the release of their new IP Bloodborne. Now let me get down to the core of this game.

To be honest in my opinion From Software is one of few companies that make solid fun games without the “fork over cash each month for new content” they rarely make add on for their titles, but the core game is what keeps their community happy and drawing in thousands of new fans. I feel like this was brought to light due to many internet personalities showcasing the games on YouTube and Twitch (a video game live-stream broadcasting website). And because of this, many have flocked to the series due to curiosity and a vastly growing community.

Story wise the game adds bit and pieces of lore, so that the player can understand what is happening but for the most part it allows players to fill in the gaps using their own imagination. Personally I absolutely love this concept mainly because it shifts games from blending into just another movie and gives off more of a sense of exploration and adventure like previous games in the past such as for one example The Legend of Zelda, Especially with the beautiful environments But remember this game isn’t a walk in the park, the game is brutal and it does a Damn good job at reminding you about that. The bosses and enemies have now been upgraded as they are a lot faster as in the style of Bloodborne and their fighting mechanics have been improved greatly, the AI can still be exploited with easy kills but the amount of times this could happen are slim. The game still continues with the running theme of currency you acquire will be lost if you die, and will stay in that location until you recover them or die again before. In addition death also brings other penalties such as your character’s physical appearance slowly changing into a undead hollow and reduced damage. All of these penalties can be fixed by talking to a certain NPC or a couple of consumable items. Now for those who have read my Dark Souls 2 know that I had an issue with their multiplayer and the fact that it was very difficult to meet up with friends, Dark Souls 3 has now added a feature that was first introduced in Bloodborne where players can set up private games where only friends with matching passwords can only be invited but any player can invade as the PvP aspect. It is a way better system for the game and still leaves you with the option of picking up random players.

Dark Souls 3 is available now for Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC.

So grab some friends and get ready for a bloody good time!!
