Patience is a virtue, especially when it comes to something you really want. The Amityville Horror franchise is one of my favorites, especially ever since I visited the real life DeFeo House in Amityville, NY. With Blumhouse Productions and Dimension Films releasing the new official, big budgeted installment in the series to theaters in January 2017, I’m glad that it looks like horror fans will be getting two Amityville movies next year, if you consider Amityville: Hotel to be canonical.

Written and produced by Matt Cloude with V2 Pictures, Amityville: Hotel is currently in the midst of principal photography with Cloude also serving as director. He’s most known for Bloodbath in Creightonville and another canonical genre film Night of the Living Dead: Genesis. With my last update, Amityville: Hotel was recently announced, so there wasn’t too much information to divulge just yet. But, boy, does two weeks make a difference! I can now confirm that some of the main and supporting cast members will include genre actors like Libby Blanton (Once Upon A Nightmare), Chelsea Grace Fox (Ghoulish Tales), Jim Krut (Deadlands 2), Paul R. Sieber (Ninjas vs. Vampires) and Cyrus Samson (Deer Crossing).

What’s most interesting to me is that Cyrus Samson is credited as playing Ronald DeFeo Jr., the man who murdered six of his family members in 1974 because he heard voices telling him strange things. These events seemingly kicked off one of the greatest hauntings of all time. With this information, I’m still keeping my fingers crossed that Amityville: Hotel is somehow going to mix the events of The Amityville Horror (1979) with Amityville; Dollhouse (1996) and Cloude’s original story. There seems to be a theme of dolls in the previously released poster and a recently released still below which leads me to believe this could be the case.

Synopsis: Sisters Melanie and Ali Gaines inherit their grandmother’s old hotel in Amityville, Long Island, looking to pick up the pieces and start a new life; but something very old, very ancient, and very evil, has other plans for them. As everyone around Melanie start to disappear, Ali becomes more threatening and things take a supernatural turn as the evil spirit arises from the hotel, and this evil has a very long history; one that dates back to the infamous DeFeo murders from 1974.
