You can only watch so many sleazy flicks in one both before the 70s bush and sex wares down on you.  After watching the Pretty Peaches trilogy on blu I decided it was time for a laugh and ventured over to my collection for a comedy.  I had went several weeks without a comedy after I watched and reviewed the Sun, Sand, and Sweatbluray sent to me from Mill Creek.

I looked around and decided to go with the 2013 comedy Fat Planet that was sent to me from my friends over at Wild Eye.  I knew nothing of the film before hand but welcomed the change of pace after watching almost an entire month of sexploitation and blaxploitation flicks.  Thanks Wild Eye for sending this one my way!

**Spoiler Alert**The film follows a group of girls that live on Fat Planet that is facing extinction as their planet’s resources are about to be depleted.  They find video signals from Earth and notice that they are skinnier than they are.  They then come across a workout television show and get the idea to bring the instructor to their planet and have him teach them how to exercise and live a healthier life.

The king of Fat Planet likes the idea and beams him up along with an energy drink spokeswoman.  He is reluctant at first to help but soon sees how dire the people of Fat Planet really are.  However, the woman that was beamed up with him wants to get home and partners with a pharmaceutical company to sabotage his work only to see the error of her ways.**Spoiler Alert**

Wild Eye may be known for their horror films but they do dabble in other genres.  Way back when I started writing reviews the first film I checked out from Wild Eye just happened to be the comedy film Gold.  It was unique and fun but their horror releases were really what stole my heart.  Sadly, Fat Planet was not up there with the quality of film that I come to expect from Wild Eye.

The acting in this one is rough.  The entire cast just feels tossed together in the scene with no rehearsals and no direction.  I don’t want to blame the cast but this is some of the most awkward acting I have ever seen.

The story for this one is not that original but it does offer a rather satirical spin on an existing story.  The story reminds me a lot of the Tim Allen film Galaxyquest.  The planet needed their help and saw their television show and sough them out for help.  Instead of it being helpless aliens dealing with another alien menace, the topic of obesity in America is the main focal point.  This was clever and could have been pretty entertaining if i was handled properly…which it wasn’t.

Finally, those of you looking for a laugh or two won’t find them here.  The film is full of dry humor with little to no redeeming qualities.  The film had several opportunities to deliver some laughs but was unable to capitalize on it.  Overall,Fat Planet is a missed opportunity.  The film has an awkward cast and an unoriginal story.  It is a comedy that is not funny and fails to deliver any form of entertainment.  Skip this one and find another Wild Eye film to check out.
