Sources are confirming that pioneering transgender actress Alexis Arquette passed away tonight, September 11, 2016, at her home in Los Angeles, California. Her cause of death has yet to be made public. She was 47-years-old. Her family described her passing as peaceful and she was surrounded by love as she “punched through the veil” to the other side, a David Bowie song accompanying her on the end journey.

Born as Robert Arquette, one of many famous children in the Arquette Dynasty, Alexis transitioned to a female in the late 90’s and became an icon in the LGBT community for opening people’s eyes to that side of the community as one of the first – if not the first – transgendered performers in the mainstream media. With talent to match a cheeky personality, Alexis went on to book roles in Hollywood hits like Pulp Fiction and The Wedding Singer; and even co-starred in the reality series “The Surreal Life” on VH1.

What few people realize is that Alexis Arquette was embraced by the horror community, maybe more-so than any other genre of film. Alexis booked lead and supporting roles in Jack Be Nimble (1993), Dead Weekend (1995), Sometimes They Come Back… Again (1996), Scream, Teen, Scream (1996), Children of the Corn V: Fields of Terror (1998), Bride of Chucky (1998) and Perfect Lover (2001). She also had small parts in Buffy the Vampire Slayer (1992) and Grey Knight (1993).

A truly talented performer, a gutsy girl and an individual who sparked the seed of acceptance in the LGBT community, Alexis will be missed by many. All of us at HorrorSociety.com send our condolences to her family, friends and fans.
