Holy shit! I mean, holy shit! This is good.
I saw one of my Facebook friends talking about a recently released short film titled Daemonrunner. Two of his friends commented on the post and all three viewers were in agreement that Daemonrunner was a superb, hidden gem. I decided to give the five minute movie a watch and… well, damn.
Let me just say, Daemonrunner is what the Ghostbusters reboot could have been. It’s what the Ghostbusters reboot should have been. It’s an action packed, female driven scifi-horror film with top notch digital and special effects. It’s a glowing testament that you can create worthwhile films without the backing of a big studio. It’s crazy, colorful and even slightly humorous! I fuckin’ loved it!
I also see little homages to The Matrix and Blade Runner as well as Lights Out and Pulse. It’s the best of both worlds, really.
Daemonrunner is listed as an “experimental” short film and I genuinely hope that this means The Roache-Turner Brothers, the creators behind Wyrmwood, take this concept and adapt it into a feature length movie in the future. I’d certainly buy it.
