Ivan Villamel’s Mr. Dentonn Becomes Most Awarded Horror Short of All Time.

MOST AWARDED AND SELECTED HORROR SHORT FILM OF ALL TIME

Mr. Dentonn, directed by Ivan Villamel, produced by Harmonica Films & Mordisco Films, and played by Irene Aguilar, Kaiet Rodriguez and Ander Pardo, has broken records in its genre, becoming the most awarded and selected horror short film of all time worldwide, with 500 official selections and more than 120 international awards, in addition to more than 1500 screenings around the world. It has been part of worldwide reference festivals in fantastic/horror genre; “International Film Festival of Sitges”, “Screamfest Horror Film Festival Los Angeles”, “Fantasia International Film Festival”, etc among an uncountable list of referents including Oscars Qualifying Festivals (“Cleveland International Film Festival”, “Leeds International Film Festival”), three times nominated for the prestigious Silver Meliès to the Best European Fantastic Short Film. His tour in festivals makes Mr. Dentonn an exception within the genre of horror, achieving that historical mark of most awarded and selected horror short film in history. Its creators are already working to find funding for the feature film project of Dentonn, where it could fully develop the mythology of the character.

SYNOPSIS: “On a cold winter night, Laura reads his brother David the story of a strange creature that attacks children. Suddenly, a shiver runs Laura’s body, feeling a strange presence in the house. It’s him.”

ABOUT THE SHORT: Mr. Dentonn is a tribute to the fantastic cinema of the 80’s, a game of references that wants to transport a whole generation to the same sensations they had when they were children. The short film is influenced by the first films of John Carpenter, a filmmaker admired by its creators, and the films of the Amblin factory. The short film was shot with each visual and sound element based on the aesthetics of the cinema of that time. The short film wants to reflect on how children are defenseless when adults do not listen to them and do not pay attention to them, as the adult world affects children. Uses the classic figure of the boogeyman to show to the audience a very original version of the myth, making him a thief of souls. A small 10-minute film, for all ages, evocative and imaginative.

ABOUT THE DIRECTOR: He was born in Barcelona (Spain) and graduated at the cinema schools “CECC” (Centro de Estudios Cinematográficos de Cataluña) and “Bande a Part” in Filmmaking, Scriptwritting and Production. He has also been taught by professionals such as Santiago Zannou (“El truco del manco”, “Alacrán enamorado”), Enrique Urbizu (“La caja 507”, “No habrá paz para los malvados”), Luis Aller (“Transeuntes”) and Michel Gaztambide (winner of the Spanish National Goya Award for best original script for “No habrá paz para los malvados”). Refugio 115 (2011) was his first professional short film (shot in 35mm when he was still a student). Before that he had already wrote and directed a few advertising spots, one of them for the Sitges Film Festival in 2010. Refugio 115 was selected in more than 200 film festivals and won more than 30 international awards (with two nominations for the Silver Mèlies for best European fantastic short) becoming the most selected horror short film in History shot by a student. Mr.Dentonn (2014) is his second short film.
