Friend Request releases on DVD and bluray January 9th from Lionsgate. The film follows a popular girl who befriends a new student but soon finds herself submerged in the world of magic and the supernatural centered on a mirror. To celebrate the film’s release I decided to toss together a list of 10 horror films centered on mirrors.
Horror is no stranger to evil or “black mirrors” which has ties to black magic. Black or obsidian mirrors was used in the practice of scrying which is where the practitioner peers into a shiny black surface to perform rituals such as demon summoning or fortune telling.
Here are 10 films that feature black mirrors! (This is not a best list. This is just a list to show 10 other films that revolve around mirrors)
10. Into the Mirror (2003)
Into the Mirror is a 2003 supernatural drama from South Korea directed by Sung-ho Kim. The film follows a former police detective who stumbles upon a series of murders centered around a department store and the mirrors they sell.
The film would be loosely remade in 2008 and retitled Mirrors starring Kiefer Sutherland.
9. Oculus (2013)
Oculus follows a young woman (Doctor Who’s Karen Gillan who believes that a mirror in her family home is responsible for her sister’s death.
8. Candyman (1992)
Candyman is the iconic horror film from 1992 written by Clive Barker and follows the urban legend of The Candyman who is summoned by saying his name three times while looking in a mirror.
7. Mirror Mirror (1990)
A young girl is granted magic powers from an antique mirror in this gothic horror tale.
6. The Boogey Man (1980)
This horror film from director Ulli Lommel follows an evil spirit that was once trapped in a mirror but is now free to kill.
5. Bloody Mary 3D (2011)
A group of filmmakers accidentally awaken the spirit of Bloody Mary when making a music video in this sexy low budget affair.
4. From Beyond the Grave (1974)
In this classic British anthology there is a segment titled The Gatecrasher where a man purchases an antique mirror that is actually a doorway to where a mysterious figure forces him to kill.

A mother buys her daughter a mirror after she suffers an accident but strange things unfold after she gives it to her.

This remake of the 2003 South Korean film Into the Mirror follows an ex-cop investigating murders centered around mirrors.
