(Short Film) Ethan Jeffries’ Phantom

The next generation of horror film-makers is alive and well, and apparently in New Zealand. It’s my pleasure to introduce you to director Ethan Jeffries, who recently completed his first ever independent horror short. In association with Upper Hutt College Media, his five minute mini-movie, Phantom, is currently available on YouTube, and I’ve provided it for your viewing pleasure below. Based on the screenplay Ethan wrote with Otaileiu Betham, Phantom follows a teenage girl who is stalked by the psychopath who haunted her childhood.

Phantom was inspired by the slasher films of the 1980’s, especially Friday the 13th and Halloween, as well as The Shining. I can definitely see that style of film-making coming into play here, especially with the choices in lighting and angles, and Mr. Jeffries’ short film certainly has that retro, undiscovered VHS feel. Phantom stars Ana Alves, Callie McGregor, Neihana Henderson and Lua Rock.

Check it out!
