Did Anyone Catch the Ghostface Cameo in The CW’s Legacies? Watch the Clip Inside!

First, Robert Englund returned as Freddy Krueger in the October 24th episode of “The Goldbergs,” and now another iconic horror film villain made a surprise appearance on television.

Mikey Aspinwall, a fellow horror enthusiast, pointed out that Ghostface popped up in an episode of The CW’s new series, “Legacies.” I don’t watch the show, but according to Aspinwall, Ghostface appears in a nightmare sequence experienced by one of the lead characters during episode four which aired on November 15th.

This cameo makes a lot of sense considering some of the minds behind the “Vampire Diaries” spin-off. Julie Plec serves as creator and an executive producer on “Legacies,” but she also worked as a producer on Scream 2 and Scream 3. Brett Matthews also serves as an executive producer on “Legacies,” and he is the current show runner on “Scream: The TV Series,” should that show ever return to MTV.

Plec told TVLine: “We wanted MG to have a nightmare about a monster from the comic books he was reading, so we asked [Greg Berlanti] and [the DC universe] if we could ‘borrow’ Grodd. They were VERY gracious. The first TVDU-DCU crossover! [And] As many of you know, I was Wes Craven’s assistant on Scream. I remember the day that his producer found the mask in the kid’s bedroom of a house they were scouting. The studio tried to have a different version of the mask designed so that they could own it for merchandising. Alas, every different version sucked. Wes stuck with the store-bought mask and Fun World held on to ownership. Making Scream was one of the highlights of my life. It was the very first movie I worked on and it’s where [Kevin Williamson] and I fell in love. And years later, [Brett Matthews] was hired to be the showrunner of Scream Season 3. We were both excited to give Ghostface a shout-out.”

Thanks to Mike Aspinwall for pointing out this cameo to genre fans who don’t watch the network. It surely makes me hungry for the new season of Scream, which has been on hold since the Harvey Weinstein scandal came to light.
