Director Todd Sheets Delivers a Cult-Classic in the Making with Savage Space Werewolves, Practical FX, and a Love Letter to Genre Cinema
A cosmic scream in the night… a starship’s last transmission… and a threat not of this world. WOLF MOON RISING has landed — and audiences are howling with excitement!
Blending high-octane horror with old-school sci-fi flair, WOLF MOON RISING is the latest feature from indie horror legend Todd Sheets, and it’s already being hailed as a crowd-pleasing, nostalgia-packed thrill ride. With early audiences raving that it’s “a great time at the movies” and “a true kick ass crowd pleaser,” the film is now embarking on a nationwide theatrical tour, bringing back the glory days of midnight movies, drive-in double features, and indoor grindhouse screens. WOLF MOON RISING doesn’t chase trends. It brings back a feeling — and give fans something original that is wild, fun, and unforgettable.
Set in deep space and dripping with atmosphere, WOLF MOON RISING follows the crew of the starship Amberstar, as they investigate a mysterious and cryptic distress signal from the lost vessel Charon 13—only to face a savage, bloodthirsty threat: space-faring werewolves. It’s a high-stakes, adrenaline-fueled battle for survival that fuses suspense, action, relentless pacing and visceral terror with evocative, jaw-dropping visual style.
“This is a love letter to the golden era of genre cinema,” says Sheets, whose career began in 1988 and includes over 30 features and more than 126 international awards. “We crafted this in the spirit of Roger Corman’s classics like Galaxy of Terror, Forbidden World, and Humanoids from the Deep — but with our own modern spin. We wanted to give fans something they haven’t seen in a long time — something real, something alive.”
Made by fans, for fans, WOLF MOON RISING features:
90% practical effects, including creature suits, makeup FX, models, miniatures and old-school matte paintings
Massive hand-built sets inspired by vintage sci-fi films — not a greenscreen in sight
A pulse-pounding synth score and rich cinematography that evoke the feel of the classic Sci-Fi Horror movies from the 70s and 80s but with a modern twist!
An ensemble cast and crew that pour passion into every frame
The film marks a new creative peak for Todd Sheets, known for cult hits like Dreaming Purple Neon, Bonehill Road, Zombie Bloodbath, TNT Jackson: The Series and The House of Forbidden Secrets. His work has been a staple of the indie horror scene for decades, with widespread releases through Walmart, Best Buy, and beyond. His last project was the acclaimed TV series TNT Jackson: The Series for producer Fred Olen Ray for Apple TV and Tubi Originals. With WOLF MOON RISING, he reaches new cinematic heights — all while staying true to his roots.
“We spent over 18 months crafting this film by hand — with love, sweat, and respect for the genre. We didn’t cut corners. We built a world,” Sheets adds. “This is what movies used to feel like — and we want to bring that feeling back.”
