SLASH Film Festival 2025: World Premiere of Creature Feature OMUKADE & More

From September 18–28, the second-largest genre film festival in the German-speaking world brings international genre cinema to Vienna—with world premieres of the Thai creature feature OMUKADE and Kenichi Ugana’s INCOMPLETE CHAIRS. Special guest: British filmmaker Ben Wheatley.

SLASH Film Festival celebrates its Sweet Sixteen with haunting, weird, and spectacular visions of contemporary Fantastic Cinema, plus a 3D retrospective and rediscovered, obscure gems from film history.

World, European, and international premieres: OMUKADE, INCOMPLETE CHAIRS & more

Among the 40+ recent feature films and numerous shorts, almost all of which will be first screenings in Austria, there are several world, European, and international premieres.

Viewers who develop chair envy after watching the latest work of prolific Japanese director Kenichi Ugana should have themselves committed ASAP. SLASH presents the world premiere of INCOMPLETE CHAIRS, in which a young chair-maker cuts down scores of lovers and representatives of the furniture industry. The director will be present.

Also guesting will be Thai directing duo Chalit Krileadmongkon and Pakphum Wongjinda for the world premiere of their creature nightmare, OMUKADE. In this prequel to their horror hit CREEPY CRAWLY (2022), a handful of Japanese soldiers and their prisoners of war become trapped in a cursed Thai mine in 1941. As if their miserable situation wasn’t enough, the mine shafts are also the hunting grounds of a giant meat-eating centipede.

Making its European debut, Simon Glassman’s competition title BUFFET INFINITY is a mean, whimsical ride into the abyss, brimming with wit and analog charm. Producer Michael Peterson will present the film in person. Another European premiere at SLASH is the splatter-comedy sequel

DEATHGASM II: GOREMAGEDDON by Jason Howden, which culminates in what might be the most explosive battle of the bands since SCOTT PILGRIM VS. THE WORLD.

Celebrating its international premiere is Rod Blackhurt’s gorgeously grim and grimy riff on TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE, DOLLY, a highly effective, bizarrely funny abomination of a movie, not least thanks to the riveting performance of wrestler Max the Impaler aka The Non-Binary Nightmare.

An Evening with Ben Wheatley & Andy Starke

SLASH has been honored to host many international genre giants in Vienna, among them Nicolas Cage, John Waters, Dario Argento, Udo Kier, and Brandon Cronenberg. 2025 will see British multi-hyphenate Ben Wheatley guest with producer Andy Starke. On September 26, the event An Evening with Ben Wheatley will feature an in-depth talk as well as the Austrian premiere of the new film BULK and a screening of the brilliant early work KILL LIST.
