Sacrificios takes its viewers on a 92-minute haunting and emotionally resonant journey into grief, redemption, and the lengths a father will go to reclaim his son. After the tragic death of his three‑year‑old child, Juan is consumed by guilt and takes to the vastness of the open sea in despair. What begins as a desperate escape transforms into a supernatural encounter when Juan mysteriously rescues his son from the waves—only to discover that preserving this miracle comes at an unimaginable price: his own blood.
The film’s soundtrack was composed by Jason Carmer, a music producer turned composer now working in Austin, who will be attending the Sacrificios screenings. Carmer first met writer/director Chernovetzky in Mexico City and has worked on his last three projects. The main producers of the film are Ernesto Martínez Arévalo (attending), Jessica Villegas Lattuada, Mauricio Chernovetzky (attending), and Alexander Ioshpe (attending), with Jairo Sifuentes (attending) serving as co-producer. The production designer is Adelle Achar.
“Sacrificios is inspired by and dedicated to my father. As I became increasingly aware of all the sacrifices he’s made for my brother and I, along with the emotional toll they’ve taken on him, I asked myself: Is there a limit to how much he’d be willing to sacrifice? This film is a response to that question. It is a deeply personal vision exploring the traumatic pain of unexpectedly losing someone you love. With Sacrificios I’ve attempted to open a portal into the rich and mysterious realm of the unconscious,” Mauricio Chernovetzky.
