Director Tom Ryan (Theatre of Terror) and Showtown American Pictures announce the release of Bitter Souls, a dark tale of teen angst, black magic, and supernatural vengeance. Now available on Amazon Prime Video and Tubi, this Southern Gothic-inspired thriller brings a terrifying new vision of the afterlife to the screen.
A Quest Beyond the Grave
When Kendall Kane (Avaryana Rose; The Caretaker, Spirit Springs) is brutally murdered, her boyfriend Lucien (Michael McKeever; The Beast Comes at Midnight) refuses to let her go. Driven by grief and a thirst for justice, Lucien enlists the aid of Father O’Reilly (Karl Barbee) and the powerful voodoo priestess Mahlet (Destiny Leilani Brown; Hell House Origins: The Carmichael Manor).
Together, they must navigate the treacherous realm of black magic to rescue Kendall’s soul. Standing in their way is the formidable and evil houngan, Immanuel, portrayed by Michael Hargrove (2021’s Candyman). But as the trio soon discovers, bringing someone back from the dead comes with a devastating price: when Kendall returns, all hell will break loose.
Local Roots, Global Chills
Filmed entirely on location in Northeast Pennsylvania, Bitter Souls showcases iconic regional landmarks across Carbondale, Dickson City, and Scranton. From the historic Ritz Theater and the Electric City Trolley Museum to the nostalgic Circle Drive-In Theatre, the film anchors its supernatural horror in the gritty, atmospheric reality of the Lackawanna Valley.
