Filmhub has announced the official US digital release of Melissa Martin’s psychological thriller Basic Psych. Starring two-time Tony Award–winning actor Michael Cerveris (Assassins, Fun Home) and David Conrad (“The Ghost Whisperer”), Basic Psych debuts on digital platforms April 21. Filmed in and around Pittsburgh with local talent on both sides of the camera, Basic Psych premiered as the opening night film of the Three Rivers Film Festival.
Directed by Melissa Martin (The Bread, My Sweet) and written by author James Tucker (Abra Cadaver, The Jack Merlin series), Basic Psych explores the perilous consequences of professional ethics when patient confidentiality prevents a psychiatrist from reporting past crimes, even when his own life and family are at risk. Basic Psych also stars Cotter Smith (“Mindhunter”) and Siena Goines (“Westworld”).
Starting April 21, audiences will be able to rent or own Basic Psych on Digital HD, including Apple TV, Prime Video, and Fandango at Home.
Ahead of the streaming debut, Martin and Tucker shared, “What a journey Basic Psych has been. Michael Cerveris and David Conrad made perfect foes. We’re excited for fans of psychological thrillers to figure this one out.”
In this taut psychological thriller, a psychiatrist treats a paranoid murderer. As sessions darken, the doctor and his family are pulled into a chilling cat-and-mouse game that drags him into a shadow world of secrets, threats, and blurred reality.
