A Stylish Queer Thriller Arrives on Digital and VOD August 4
Dean Francis’ provocative queer thriller BODY BLOW arrives today on Digital and On Demand from Dark Star Pictures. Blending erotic tension, darkly comic twists, and a knowing nod to queer history, BODY BLOW reimagines the classic film noir as a neon-soaked descent into Sydney’s underworld.
Starring Tim Pocock (X-MEN ORIGINS: WOLVERINE), Tom Rodgers (JOE VS CAROL), Sacha Horler (THE DRESSMAKER), Paul Capsis (HEAD ON), and Chris Haywood (MURIEL’S WEDDING), BODY BLOW follows a disgraced cop reassigned to Sydney’s gay nightlife district, where he’s drawn into a dangerous entanglement with a charismatic sex worker and a murderous drag queen mobster. The film spirals into a baroque crime story charged with obsession, desire, and betrayal—filtered through a proudly queer lens.
”I’m thrilled to be partnering with Dark Star for the second time,” said director Dean Francis. “As a distributor, they are fearless, just like this film. Body Blow is a twisted, sexy thrill ride—part Ozploitation fever dream, part nod to the chaos and brilliance of filmmakers who influenced me like John Waters and Greg Araki. It was made to blow the roof off the cinema, and there’s no one better than Dark Star to unleash it on the world.”
Following its celebrated debut at Fantastic Fest, BODY BLOW continues its journey to audiences with its release on August 4. A stylish, unapologetically queer noir, the film embraces the grit of classic crime thrillers while pushing the genre into thrilling new territory.
