After releasing his film The TRIP in 2023 TERROR FILMS RELEASING has teamed up a second time with writer/director Dean Jacobs to bring his newest indie horror, “Water Rites”, to streaming platforms worldwide.
Starring Dee Wallace (E.T., Cujo), Michael Berryman (The Hills Have Eyes, One Flew Over The Cuckoo’s Nest), Lynn Lowry, and Katy Bentz, Water Rites follows a couple that decides to spend the summer at a secluded lakefront community. After uncovering the locals’ secrets, the couple’s idyllic retreat quickly turns into something neither of them will return from…
Jacobs had this to say about the film:
“Think of Water Rites as a boat ride. You don’t go out on a boat expecting it to storm… but it might.
With this film I wanted to capture the natural beauty of the setting and juxtapose against the darker tone of the story. I hope Water Rites offers a new and modern take on a familiar genre, with a bit of a twist. My intention was a slow-burning folk horror: a young couple on vacation and a small town with something to hide.
Main inspirations came from Hitchcock, British folk horror films, films like Misery, The Shining, Midsommar and many more. And with veteran actors Dee Wallace, Michael Berryman and Lynn Lowry in the supporting cast and Katy Bentz as the lead, the world we created really comes to life. So find a seat and settle in for the ride… could be rough waters ahead.”
