Breaking Glass Pictures is releasing SMOKEE, a wild new horror-comedy from writer-director Whit Whitman. The film is currently available on Fawesome, with Breaking Glass Pictures seeking additional streaming and digital platforms to bring the bloody, offbeat creature feature to an even wider audience.
At a remote marriage-counseling retreat, a group of guests arrives expecting relationship therapy, relaxation and an unusual getaway. Instead, cannabis-fueled rituals and old grudges accidentally summon Smokee, a knife-wielding demon bear, turning the weekend into a chaotic fight for survival.
As the guests struggle to stay alive, buried secrets, betrayals and the strange truth behind the retreat begin to surface. Combining stoner comedy, supernatural horror and creature-feature mayhem, Smokee delivers a bloody and unpredictable take on a very unconventional therapy weekend.
“Smokee is the kind of movie I love making: weird, funny, handmade, and completely committed to its own personality. We made it with limited resources but a lot of imagination,” said writer-director Whit Whitman. “I chose Breaking Glass because they understand independent filmmakers and offbeat genre movies. They saw what made Smokee different and felt like the right team to help it find its audience.”
“Smokee is exactly the kind of unique independent genre film we love,” said Rich Wolff, CEO of Breaking Glass Pictures. “It’s funny, bloody and completely unpredictable.”
Smokee stars Lynn Lowry, Alexis “Lexi” Andrews, Timothy Pogue, Elley Ringo, Billy Crank, Anne-Marie Olsen, Juan Szilagyi, Joshua M. Hancock, Robert Rose, Jessica Claire Crosby, Joshua Michael Collins, Brian Patrick Thomas, Don Langley, Amanda Rose Mattingly, Jason Donahue, Rachel Atterholt, Casey Miracle, Brandon Murphy, Jonathan Licata, Dakota Jones, Destiny Elexis, Vanessa Jarrard and Kathrine Horgan.
Whit Whitman directs, with Rich Wolff, Susan Helfrich and Whit Whitman serving as producers. The film is a Little Monsters Entertainment production.
With a premise that combines the outrageous energy of stoner comedy with the blood-soaked chaos of creature horror, Smokee is a natural fit for fans of films such as Evil Dead II, Tucker & Dale vs. Evil and Pineapple Express.
