Hungarian Horror Feature BLOODY NIGHT Heading to AFM as International Trailer Debuts

Hungarian horror feature BLOODY NIGHT will be presented at the upcoming American Film Market (AFM), following the release of its international trailer. Blending supernatural horror, a cursed film-within-a-film, and brutal slasher thrills, BLOODY NIGHT explores the dark side of cinema in a terrifying story where watching a movie can have deadly consequences.

Set in the historic Apollo Cinema in Debrecen, Hungary, the film follows night watchman Lóránt Tompos, who discovers an old horror movie hidden in the theater’s basement. Despite warnings from his colleague Simi that the film is cursed, Tompos decides to screen it during one of his unofficial late-night showings. According to local legend, the movie premiered at the same cinema thirty years earlier, leaving all six audience members dead, while its director killed himself shortly afterward. Dismissing the story as superstition, Tompos proceeds with the screening, unwittingly awakening a dark force that unleashes a chain of brutal events inside the cinema.

The film’s director describes BLOODY NIGHT as “a tribute to classic horror cinema, the analog movie experience, and my hometown of Debrecen.” At the heart of the story is the historic Apollo Cinema. Inspired by its vintage projectors, shadowy corridors, and the secrets hidden within its walls, the director set out to create a claustrophobic slasher movie that recaptures the visceral fear of 1980s and 1990s horror. As the director puts it, “BLOODY NIGHT is a love letter to cinema—written in blood.”

BLOODY NIGHT is scheduled for theatrical release in Hungary in February 2027, following the premiere in Debrecen at the Apollo Cinema this October. International sales will be handled by EuroObscura, which will introduce the film to distributors during the upcoming American Film Market.
