BLACK MANDALA is proud to present LANDLORD, a vampire horror thriller from director Remington Smith that brings a sinister twist to an age-old rule: a vampire needs an invitation to enter your home—unless he owns it.
Blending neo-Western grit, American independent cinema and supernatural horror, LANDLORD had its world premiere at Grimmfest and was selected for the Frontières Buyers Showcase at the Marché du Film in Cannes.
In In the sweltering summer heat of Louisville, Kentucky, a nameless Black bounty hunter arrives at a rundown apartment complex to recover a stolen briefcase. What appears to be a routine job takes a terrifying turn when he discovers that the building’s white landlord is a vampire, free to enter the homes of his tenants without permission.
After the creature murders the mother of a young tenant named Alex, the reluctant hunter becomes the boy’s only protector. Together, they must fight their way through a town where the power to own a home also means the power to invade it.
Shot on location in Louisville, LANDLORD grounds its horror in the textures of everyday life. Sun-bleached streets and worn interiors give way to oppressive nights, practical gore effects and a brooding, Carpenter-inspired score. Smith turns the familiar pressures of money, housing and survival into the foundations of a blood-soaked nightmare.
LANDLORD is represented internationally by BLACK MANDALA.
