2016 has been a rough year for horror icons. We’ve lost so many iconic actors and filmmakers, but this is the first time we’ve lost an iconic location. It was reported by multiple sources tonight that the famed Sable Ranch in South California was destroyed by a wildfire that is becoming quite the hazard. The wildfire started Friday morning, with Sable Ranch burning down on Saturday night, and only 10% of the fire being contained by Sunday might. The former film and television hot-spot was beloved by filmmakers for its Old West styled property which included a working train and barn and fields and lakes.
Sable Ranch used to be located at 25933 Sand Canyon Rd, Santa Clarita, CA 91387.
So far the wildfire has burned over 20,000 acres of land or just about 31 miles. Though fire fighters have been working around the clock to contain the disaster, 18 films have been lost so far and an estimated 1,500 are still in danger. The fire is so intense, in fact, that some have described the smoke plumes as being able to block out the sun. One body has also been found in the danger zone.
Films shot on location at Sable Ranch include:
Motel Hell (1980), Fangs (1981), Leatherface: Texas Chainsaw Massacre III (1990), Pumpkinhead 2: Blood Wings (1993), Totem (1999), Curse of the Forty-Niner (2002), The Haunted Mansion (2003), Death Valley: The Revenge of Bloody Bill (2004), The Devil’s Rejects (2005), The Butcher (2006), The Graveyard (2006), Hatchet (2006), Snakes on a Train (2006), Voodoo Curse: The Giddeh (2006), Bone Eater (2007), Craw Lake (2007), Lake Dead (2007), Midnight Movie (2008), Brotherhood VI: The Initiation (2009), Red Velvet (2008), The Lost Skeleton Returns Again (2009), Lure (2010) and Little Dead Rotting Hood (2016)..
It was also used in episodes of “Supernatural” and “Firefly” as well as “The A-Team.”
