Vampires Suck (and much of it did)

I’m not one who readily watches spoof movies but when I first saw trailers for Vampires Suck, I knew this was one spoof I just had to watch. So I sat through the movie, laughing at the one-liners and gags for about the first 30-40 minutes. But soon the laughter died as the movie went from hilarious to…well, I’ll leave that for a little later.

We open with Edward exposing himself to sunlight in the town square in Italy (forgive me but I’ve only seen the first Twilight Movie but I know some details for the others.) He takes off his shirt, then his pants, and as the camera zooms out, we see a giant disco ball covering…well, enough said. But it was pretty clever and got a laugh out of me.

“Ever since puberty I’ve bee feeling a little different,” Jacob tells Becca as he scratches his head with his foot and promptly runs off chasing a cat. Again, funny – but unfortunately it….wait for it.

The sleazy Jersey Shore reality crew makes a brief (thank you) appearance when Becca ask who (Edward) is the first time he walks into the school. Ugh!

Here are some of my favorite moments:

  • The scene when Becca walks into Biology class and the fan blows her scent into Edward’s face. He puts on a HasMat suit on to keep from smelling her.
  • When the evil vampire (two guys and girl) show up at the boat house and ask the fisherman if he knows who they are. He responds “You’re the Black-Eye Peas.”
  • When the sheriff (dad) confronts Becca with the news that the fisherman was found dead in the boat house. He tells Becca that “his blood had been drained, he had multiple bite marks all over his body. Do you know what this means? The Kardashians are in town.

Once I got past most of the humorous moments, I quickly became bored. Like most spoofs, they kept pushing the boundaries between funny and just plain stupid. And I think like a lot of spoofs (i.e. Scary Movie), I’m sure there will be blood…er, I mean a sequel.

The actors in this spoof did their job. What does that mean? They didn’t….well, suck. Get it?  And while the leading actresses (Jenn Proske) was no Ana Farris, she did mimic Kristen Stewart’s mannerism from the Twilight series. Bottom line, this movie will probably never cross these eyes again, and I wouldn’t recommend this to anyone to watch but I can honestly say it was a guilty pleasure to at least see it once.
