Nitrate + Kinogeists II: Art of Silent Cinema

NITRATE + KINOGEISTS 2. TEIL : Art of Silent Cinema CENTURY GUILD . 26 March 2011 . 6-9pm (secret location)

This March, Chicago-based Century Guild presents its latest darkly seductive exhibition: Nitrate + Kinogeists II: Art of Silent Cinema. The show reunites auteur Dave McKean’s latest mixed media series inspired by early film with rare selections from Century Guild’s European silent film poster inventory. This landmark show is a sequel of sorts to the initial collaborative exhibition Nitrate + Kinogeists, presented in late 2009 at the legendary Portage Theatre in Chicago and Billy Shire Fine Arts in Los Angeles. The show also features brand new work from modern Symbolist painter Gail Potocki and illustrator Douglas Klauba.

A Kickstarter.com fundraiser page has been started for the exhibition book: https://kck.st/g2ZFJ1

Century Guild has met with overwhelming success with previous Kickstarter campaigns. They are excited to continue to utilize the online community to produce a product worthy of the history and aesthetic of silent film.

Century Guild was founded in 1999 by Thomas Negovan and Stuart Tomc, and since its inception, they have placed artworks in museums and top collections around the world. Works previously in the Century Guild inventory are on permanent display in The Art Institute of Chicago, The Detroit Institute of Arts, and The Metropolitan Museum of Art. Previously, Century Guild kept a low profile and only exhibited their works at select public events and exhibition as they focused on building an impressive inventory of important Art Nouveau and Symbolist artifacts. The Century Guild collection concentrates on antique posters, lithographs, and period pottery from Germany, Austria, France, and Italy 1880-1920, and includes the lithography of infamous artists such as Gustav Klimt, Alphonse Mucha, Egon Schiele, and Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec.

The exhibition will be held on March 26th, 2011, just outside of downtown Chicago in a secret industrial location. It is a ONE-NIGHT ONLY event, featuring a decadent spread of food and beverages. No one under 18 will be permitted. Formal, fetish, or period attire (1920s) encouraged. This is an invitation only event, RSVP required.
