FAIRY DUST tells the story of Saga, a neurodivergent tomboy in 1980s England who would rather spend her days alone fighting imaginary monsters and her nights dreaming of a beautiful princess to avoid the problematic realities of growing up too fast in a world that’s ready to eat her whole.
Home is an unwelcoming place with unhappy parents. Father is a burnout who wishes he’d had a son. Mum is a weary housewife who wants her daughter to be more proper and feminine. The outside world isn’t much better: Saga is bullied ruthlessly by classmates for her weird behavior.
When she’s chased into the woods, Saga is knocked unconscious and awakens in a dark and mysterious realm full of strange, masked creatures and dangerous beasts. Here, she meets a motley crew of characters who believe that she’s the heroic champion destined to save the Fae Princess from the treacherous Rex-Imperator and his sadistic sorcerer.
FAIRY DUST is a surreal fairytale about needing to escape a reality not meant for us, and the harm that comes with staying too long in the imaginary worlds we build for ourselves.
At its core, it’s about the struggle for identity when life offers no roadmap. Most of all, it’s about finding the courage to push through, even when we feel like we’re stuck in one place.
