Man, oh man, am I Johnny Depp fan. Not only that, I’m a Stephen King fan. What a glorious combination.
If there were ever a movie about madness, Secret Window is that movie.
Johnny Depp plays Mort Rainey, a famous writer who is suffering suffering from depression after
catching his wife cheating on him. He moves out of his house in New York and into a secluded cabin he has owned for several years. Confronted by the mysterious John Shooter, Mort begins a disastrous journey down a long road into his own psyche.
Although it has been some time since I read Stephen King’s story, I think the movie and story parallel each other nicely; no Hollywood happy ending in other words.
What I like about Secret Window is although it’s about a man on the edge of madness, Johnny Depp is not playing off himself, instead he has a completely different character to play against.
The best part is watching these two characters slowly evolve into one. It’s like watching a play of Good vs. Evil. Which one gets to win is just a matter of how the chess pieces are moved.
