The Resident

Academy Award winner Hilary Swank and Grey’s Anatomy former favorite Jeffrey Dean Morgan star in The Resident. Juliet (Swank) is an ER resident doctor looking for a place to live in New York when she finds the perfect apartment, owned by Max (Morgan). Juliet is recently separated and bonds quickly with Max.
However, Juliet decides to concentrate on her career and salvage her marriage after her flirtation with landlord Max goes too far. While she pulls back and refocuses on what she deems important in her life, it’s not so easy for Max. He is a bit obsessive and when things escalate, he takes interesting tactics to try to win over Juliet.
Director and writer Antti Jokinen, along with writer Robert Orr, bring a tale perfectly set in New York City. While Swank and Morgan are perfect as victim and stalker, the real star of this movie is the apartment. The dark lighting, mixed with the old, yet elegant building truly sets the stage for what unfolds. The same story could never take place in a newer building, with its square rooms and non-intricate back hallways and hidden passageways.
The Resident was a good watch, but don’t look for any mind-blowing plot lines or characters. The story may be new by the actors who played the parts, but it is not by the viewers who have seen this type of plot multiple times before in various other movies. If you like the actors, then go ahead and take the time to watch. It will not disappoint you and will hold your interest.
