For more than three decades, Debbie Rochon has been screaming, slashing and surviving her way through independent horror. With over 300 screen credits, a reign as Draculina magazine’s “Scream Queen of the Decade” and a spot on ETonline’s list of the “Top 40 Scream Queens of the Past 40 Years,” she is one of the genre’s most beloved and recognizable faces also known as “the Meryl Streep of Horror.” Now, just in time for Halloween, IndiePix Films is thrilled to announce THE DEBBIE ROCHON FILM FESTIVAL, launching October 16 exclusively on IndiePix Unlimited, its signature SVOD service on Amazon Prime Video Channels.
The 30+ film lineup showcases Rochon as victim, villain, witch, hostess and everything in between. She’s a Halloween-night killer stalking her prey through a pirate radio broadcast (American Nightmare), one half of a pair of suburban witches (The Good Sisters), a farm wife consumed by an otherworldly force in an H.P. Lovecraft adaptation (Colour from the Dark) and the unhinged narrator of “The Tell-Tale Heart” (Tales of Poe). Fans can also expect sorority slayings (Final Examination), mutant squatters (Slime City Massacre), a resurrected killer chef (Bikini Bloodbath Car Wash), a soap opera with a body count (Hell Town) and Tom Savini’s nightmarish segment of the cult anthology The Theatre Bizarre. The festival also spotlights some of Rochon’s most decorated work, including her “Best Psychette” honor from the Phantom of the Movies’ Videoscope for American Nightmare, her Best Actress win at the 2012 PollyGrind Film Festival for Exhumed and a trio of Best Actress awards for Tales of Poe.
For the festival, Debbie hand-picked 17 of her favorite films and recorded a special introduction for each. The introductions will premiere throughout October, exclusively on IndiePix Films’ YouTube channel. “I’ve been doing this so long I apparently have my own film festival now, which is either a great honor or a cry for help” says Rochon. “Thirty-two of my movies streaming in one place? If that doesn’t trigger some kind of algorithmic crisis, I don’t know what will. The festival is truly a combo platter of horror, from true terror to pure, unadulterated camp, and I recorded intros for 17 of my favorites, mostly to assure you I’m a perfectly normal person who just happens to enjoy being covered in fake blood. So lock your doors, grab your popcorn, and prepare to laugh, scream, and question my life choices.”
Whether you’re a longtime member of her fan club or just looking for the perfect Halloween binge, THE DEBBIE ROCHON FILM FESTIVAL is a celebration of an indie horror original who has never stopped working, never stopped screaming and never once played it safe.
AMERICAN NIGHTMARE (2002, 91 mins)
Winner, “Best Psychette,” Phantom of the Movies’ Videoscope Award
On Halloween night, a group of friends calls in to a pirate radio show to confess their deepest fears. Listening in is Jane (Rochon), a cold-blooded killer who sets out to make every one of those nightmares come true. Joe Bob Briggs called Rochon’s turn perhaps “the first convincing female psycho.”
BIKINI BLOODBATH CAR WASH (2008, 90 mins)
Rochon returns as Miss Johnson, the sharp-tongued former gym coach now running a car wash staffed by bikini-clad co-eds. When a séance goes horribly wrong, the girls accidentally resurrect the murderous Chef Death, who carves his way through the staff on the way to a party at the scene of his first massacre. A gleefully trashy horror-comedy sequel.
COLOUR FROM THE DARK (2008, 92 mins)
Ivan Zuccon’s adaptation of H.P. Lovecraft’s “The Colour Out of Space” moves the tale to the Italian countryside during World War II. When farmer Pietro and his wife Lucia (Rochon) draw something unknown from their well, an eerie, glowing color begins to spread across their land, poisoning the crops — and the family’s minds.
EXHUMED (2011, 90 mins)
Best Actress, 2012 PollyGrind Film Festival
Shot in moody black and white, Richard Griffin’s gothic chiller follows a twisted family that seems unable to leave its home. As isolation and resentment fester, life inside the house erupts into violence and visceral panic. Rochon stars as the household’s formidable Governess.
FINAL EXAMINATION (2003, 98 mins)
Five years after a bullied student’s suicide, her former sorority sisters reunite at a luxury Hawaiian hotel for a glamour photo shoot — and start turning up dead. A transplanted L.A. cop races to find the killer, with Rochon as Taylor Cameron, the shoot’s photographer and a woman with secrets of her own. Directed by B-movie legend Fred Olen Ray.
HELL TOWN (2015, 90 mins)
Rochon hosts the surviving episodes of a “lost” soap opera in this sadistic twist on Masterpiece Theatre. Love, sex and betrayal tear through a small-town senior class as the prom queen, the jock, the geek and the school’s reigning mean girl all fall under suspicion — while the Letter Jacket Killer picks off students one by one.
INBETWEENING (2024, 118 mins.)
Stuck between gigs and running out of reasons to keep going, indie filmmaker Eric Linson finds the voices in his head getting louder — and a lot less helpful. His one ally? Fishbone frontman Angelo Moore, playing himself. Debbie is part of an all-star ensemble in INBETWEENING, a wild and funny ride blending live action, animation, puppetry and a full-blown musical number, ultimately becoming an unexpectedly tender portrait of a creative mind coming apart at the seams.
KILLER RACK (2015, 90 mins)
Insecure office drone Betty Downer thinks a new figure will change her life, so she signs up for breast augmentation with the glamorous Dr. Cate Thulu (Rochon). What Betty doesn’t know is that the doctor secretly worships H.P. Lovecraft’s Elder Gods. Her new assets come out hungry and murderous, with plans for world domination. Greg Lamberson (Slime City Massacre) directs this outrageous musical horror-comedy, and Troma founder Lloyd Kaufman has a cameo.
PURGATORY BLUES (2001, 90 mins)
Down-on-his-luck junkie Jack is killed by Steve, the abusive husband of sweet-natured Martha (Rochon), and lands straight in hell. To win his way back to the land of the living, he strikes a deal with a demon known as The Principal (Julie Strain): corrupt an innocent soul within 72 hours or be damned forever.
SAVAGED (2008, 85 mins)
Hiding from her abusive ex-boyfriend, Maria (Rochon) takes a house-sitting job in a quiet small town — and ends up with a dog that has some very strange habits. As a dead man turns up, a black bear roams loose and her ex closes in, Maria begins to wonder whether the real danger is outside or curled up at her feet.
SERIAL KALLER (2014, 95 mins)
A group of internet models mocks an unstable fan live on air — a mistake they regret when he locks them inside their recording studio and begins hunting them down. Rochon and Suzi Lorraine co-star in this lean slasher. “Beauty may only be skin deep, but revenge cuts to the bone.”
SKIN CRAWL (2007, 75 mins)
In the late 1600s, a family of witches is hunted by a corrupt official. After one sister is murdered, the survivors curse those who wronged them. Three centuries later, the curse takes monstrous shape just as the husband of a witch’s wealthy descendant plots with his mistress to kill her for her fortune. Rochon takes on a dual role.
SLIME CITY MASSACRE (2010, 85 mins)
Greg Lamberson’s sequel to his 1988 cult classic Slime City. After a dirty bomb devastates Manhattan, four squatters scavenging the abandoned ruins discover a stash of food that transforms them into slimy, murderous mutants — just as a greedy developer sends in mercenaries to wipe them out. Rochon co-stars as Alice.
TALES OF POE (2014, 120 mins)
Best Actress: Buffalo Screams Horror Film Festival, Macabre Faire Film Festival and Terror Film Festival
Bart Mastronardi and Alan Rowe Kelly’s anthology reimagines Edgar Allan Poe through three tales: “The Tell-Tale Heart,” “The Cask of Amontillado” and “Dreams.” In the award-winning opener, Rochon plays a narrator who insists she isn’t mad as she recounts the murder of a silent-screen star. The cast also includes horror favorites Caroline Williams, Adrienne King and Amy Steel.
THE BOG CREATURES (2003, 85 mins)
A group of college students hired by a shady scientist to excavate a remote bog uncover a cache of perfectly preserved corpses — the victims of a centuries-old massacre. When black magic brings the dead back to life, the dig turns into a desperate fight for survival.
THE GOOD SISTERS (2009, 106 mins)
Breanne (Rochon) and Kindra Good are witches who keep their craft hidden from their Maryland neighbors. But when a mysterious man named Daniel moves in next door, the sisters suspect he’s leading a secret life of his own — and may be watching them — forcing them to turn their powers against him.
THE THEATRE BIZARRE (2011, 114 mins)
A young woman lured into an abandoned theater is greeted by a sinister puppet host who presents six tales of terror from genre masters Richard Stanley, Douglas Buck, Buddy Giovinazzo, David Gregory, Karim Hussain and Tom Savini. Rochon appears in Savini’s “Wet Dreams” as Carla, the wronged wife of a philandering husband whose nightmares are about to get much, much worse.
