Yesterday, Horror Society announced that it will now also be a fundraising website in addition to the #1 spot for indie horror news, reviews, and interviews. This was only the first step in branching out and making Horror Society a company, a brand. I figured now is as good a time as any to also announce… that Horror Society will be opening its own production company and all parties involved have agreed that our first project will be to remake Bride of The Monsters. Read the official press release below. It is definitely the dawning of a new era at Horror Society.

Chicago, Illinois – Award winning, independent horror website Horror Society is tapped to open its own production company. After years of industry support, the website, run by Mitchell Wells, is going from supporting horror films to making horror films. The new production hub will be called, what else, Horror Society Productions. It will be co-owned by Horror Society’s two leading reporters, Mitchell Wells and Michael DeFellipo.
Horror Society Productions has already inked a deal to remake Edward Wood’s 1955 cult classic, Bride of the Monster. “When you think of indie film, and really just mega-cult classics to begin with, you get the whole package with Bride of the Monster,” explains Mitchell Wells on why he chose to start with this film. “I don’t think there is any other title out there that would fit Horror Society Production’s first goal as well as Bride.”
An investment contract has been signed as well, and production on HSP’s first feature is set to begin in late Fall of 2012. While the Bride of the Monster remake is currently still in preproduction, several well known names inside the independent horror genre have confirmed their involvement with this project. Virginian filmmaker Jonathan Moody is lined up play director along with DP Ron Purtee. Moody will be releasing a DVD anthology this April called Scary Story Slumber Party and Ron Purtee recently announced he will direct the grindhouse styled film, Go Go Girls vs The Nazis.
Raymond Wade of the upcoming Breed franchise will back the film, further cementing his role as a great producer. Mr. Wade will also fill in as the editor. Kelsey Zukowski is on board as the lead special FX technician and Lia Scott Price will help provide music and original scorings. Mitchell Wells is on board as an executive producer and Michael DeFellipo will serve as casting director and publicist. Last, but certainly not least, Todd Farmer of My Bloody Valentine 3D and Jason X fame is currently writing this upcoming picture.
Several cast members have already been selected, although the process is still ongoing. The iconic legend Lloyd Kaufman has officially signed on to play the character of Bela Lugosi. Camel Spiders actress Jessica Cameron will tackle the role of Janet Lawton, with VH1 Scream Queen 2 finalist Sierra Holmes playing the role of Tillie. Chill star Roger Conners will play Officer Kelton.
On casting Bride of the Monsters, Michael DeFellipo had the following to say. “Horror Society is a great marketing tool in itself. The term society kind of gives the sense of community and that’s something we’ve always wanted to achieve, a community within a community. So, when it came to putting cast and crew together, we selected people we are very familiar with, people we know will do a superb job, and people whose work is top quality. Also, as a big thank you to our readers who have supported us throughout the years, we will be giving away walk on roles to fans, but that will come much later!”
More updates on Bride of The Monsters will be announced as they occur.
