Half-Wit Horror: Muffy the Vampire Slayer

This clip is pretty interesting!

After the success of Scary Movie in 2000 and Not Another Teen Movie in 2001, there was a huge outpouring of spoof projects that pretty much died off within the next five or six years. By 2006, it seemed like the perfect to time to strike – and former Teen Movie writer and producer Mike Bender (MTV Movie Award show parodies 1999-2008) and executive producer Neal H. Moritz (“Point Pleasant,” “True Calling”) set out to make their own television show specializing in the spoofing of pop culture film and television. The proposed show as called “Not Another High School Show.”

The premise of the should is simple: they were going to spoof all film and television shows that take place and were aimed at high school aged kids. A pilot was greenlit by Comedy Central in 2007 and the show went into production. However, Comedy Central was unhappy with the pilot and the show fell into oblivion. Fortunately, the pilot episode, “Muffy the Vampire Slayer” has made its way onto iTunes and clips from the cancelled pilot have made their way onto YouTube. One segment of “Muffy the Vampire Slayer” can be found below!

The clip is interesting because it features Alison Brie (“Mad Men,” “Community”) in the lead role as Muffy years before she became a household name. Also, A-List superstar Jennifer Lawrence (The Hunger Games, American Hustle) has a bit part as Frantic Girl. Crazy, right?

Other cast members from the pilot episode – which, remember, you can find on iTunes – include John Keefe (Return of the Living Dead), Jocelin Donahue (The House of the Devil), Rachel Specter (Prom Night remake), Brendan Miller (Accepted), Jonathan Arthur (“The Mindy Project,” Cloverfield), Andy Dick (Shardknado 2), Courtney Fleming (“Greek”), and Christina Masterson (“Power Rangers Megaforce”).

It’s weird, but Alison Brie actually does a pretty good impression of Buffy Summers. It’s actually the best spoof performance I’ve seen!
