Filming Wraps on “Confined” aka La Casa Angosta, a Gothic Psychological Thriller
After a month of intense shooting days, production has wrapped in Asunción on Confined aka La Casa Angosta, a chilling psychological thriller that blends gothic horror with contemporary terror, echoing the style of production houses like A24.
Directed by Armando Aquino (Leal 2, Mborayhu Porã) and Hernán Moyano (El Ritual del Libro Rojo 2, Cold Sweat, Belisario: The Little Big Hero of the Cosmos), the film brings together a top-tier technical crew and a standout local cast led by Lizzie Gómez, Diro Romero, Natalia Cálcena, Matías Miranda, Lia Love, Alejandra Cabral Valinotti, and Alberto Jara.
With a story full of unexpected twists and a fresh take on gothic horror, Confined centers around an old, shadowy mansion in Asunción, where Salma — a young woman caught in a toxic relationship — takes a job as caretaker to a dying elderly man. What seems at first like a chance to escape her own inner demons quickly devolves into a labyrinth of secrets and supernatural phenomena that push her sanity to the edge.
The film draws inspiration from genre milestones like Hereditary, The Others, Drag Me to Hell, and Servant, exploring horror through a distinctive lens that focuses on layered characters and bold, surprising storytelling — without sacrificing the visceral power of visual shock and gore. This thriller masterfully combines elements of body horror and paranormal fear within a haunting, claustrophobic atmosphere.
The filmmakers embrace a refined visual aesthetic, featuring cinematography by Armando Aquino himself, art direction by Estefanía Ortiz with nods to horror classics, and a strategic production design led by local producer Patricia Sánchez. These elements are elevated by demanding performances, shaped under the guidance of veteran actor and coach Mario Marti.
The original soundtrack will include a track by legendary local band Iodi, originally formed in 1968 under the name Jodis, featuring brothers Dirk and Jörn Wenger.
Executive producers Gaspar Zaldívar (Luna de Cigarras, El Supremo Manuscrito) and Bruno Zuccolillo helm the project, which is co-produced by Paraguayan companies Janus Media S.A. and Zuma Productions, with Chaco Films joining as associate producer. Post-production and global distribution will be handled by Black Mandala Films, an acclaimed Argentina–New Zealand company celebrated at major festivals such as SITGES, TIFF, and BIFAN.
The original screenplay was written by Argentine filmmaker Hernán Moyano.
Confined will complete its production phase in the second half of 2025 and is set to begin its international festival run ahead of its theatrical release across the region.
