3-D Horror is upon us…maybe…

I just viewed this trailer for My Bloody Valentine in 3-D ( directed by Patrick Lussier) and it looks pretty sweet! I think that the main reason I am eager to see this is solely for the fact that it was filmed in 3-D. I think that a slasher film in 3-D needs to be brought back in a big way with a well-done movie.

As far as horror goes, the films that I can think off of right from the top of my head are Friday the 13th Part 3, Jaws 3, Beowulf, Nightmare Before Christmas, House of Wax, Creature from the Black Lagoon and a handful of others. Some of these have not been originally released in 3-D at the theaters and some were released in a limited amount of theaters in 3-D.

According to Lionsgate, My Bloody Valentine in 3-D, remake of the 1981 Canadian cult hit, will be the first three-dimensional horror film to be released theatrically in the United States in more than 20 years. Joe Drake, the president and co-chief operating officer of Lionsgate’s motion picture was quoted saying this to the NY Times, “We see 3-D horror as financially lucrative and creatively exciting” and “We want to break some new ground here in R-rated fare.”
Yeah, I guess Lionsgate wants to start re-making other peoples’ films in 3-D because it just showed no creativity re-making them in 2-D. I wonder why Lionsgate is, if in fact they are, going to distribute My Bloody Valentine in theaters nationwide or if they are, in fact, going to screw over the makers of this film like they did with Clive Barker’s Midnight Meat Train, a completely original idea adapted from Barker’s masterful Books of Blood. I guess we will have to wait and see…
Maybe Jigsaw and the Saw franchise will start doing 3-D films…Envision it with me, SAW 6-3-D.
Hey, Eli– up for Hostel 3-3-D??? Maybe that is what Michael Bay and company should have done for Jason Voorhees and his franchise- Friday the 13th:Remake in 3-D. I should not really complain. I am going to see any horror film, 3-D or not, because I love horror films. But, I will always show my utmost admiration for a film-maker that presents me with an original idea or concept and brings it to fruition.
