Adam Pitman left Moscow for Hollywood in 2002 with stars in his eyes and dreams of appearing on the big screen.
Those dreams fell through, so Pitman found a new direction, stepping behind the camera and into the spotlight.
He now owns independent film company BadFritter Films with college friend and filmmaking cohort David Blair and friend Adam Stilwell. The trio’s psychological thriller, “Paper Dolls,” which Pitman wrote as a student at the University of Idaho, is now taking home awards at film festivals across the United States.
Pitman and Blair will show the film at 7:30 p.m. Saturday at the UI’s Hartung Theatre.
“Ever since I was little I’ve loved monsters and scary things; I would tell scary stories in the dark,” Pitman said. “I’ve seen almost every horror movie there ever was. I set about creating a higher quality horror film than what’s been going out.”
He said the horror in this movie is reminiscent of films like “The Shining” and “Rosemary’s Baby.”
“It’s more implied than shoved down the throat.” he said.
The story revolves around two teenagers who recently graduated from high school and are on a road trip to Canada. They go down a back road, run into creatures out in the woods, and horror ensues.
