All the Pretty Girls

So I think Mary Goff has an angel on one shoulder and the devil on the other. I had a chance to read a collection of her short stories and poems and realized she knows just how to keep the balance. She has the uncanny ability of comforting you and disturbing you at the same time with her writing. All the Pretty Girls sounds like a sweet enough title but Mary’s lover (Bryan Bloodsoaker) helps her add to the demented balance with cover art that draws you in and makes you flinch at the very same time.

It seems Mary’s collection stems from the things that haunt her and chase here – but don’t necessarily scare her. She’s creepy and sinister after all and the dark side seems to be a place she enjoys. But the sweetness she has deep inside tends to creep in every so often softening the evil side of this girl and her words. Her poems Id and Maestro are sexy pieces that make you understand she is loved and has loved very deeply. They seem like personal pieces taken from her diary or letters to her lover. Poems I feel like a spy reading but love the insight they give me to the sweeter side of Mary.

But remember Mary is about balance. Just when you think she is all tender and goodness she slaps you silly with sicker stories such as Consummate that take you to a dark and dirty place where lust can and will can drive a person to do and give anything for the desire one craves. Equally as creepy is Me, Myself, and Eye the tale of a woman scorned who does indeed get her revenge as well as an escape from the cruelness that haunts her.

There is thoughtfulness in the way Mary writes. She chooses to describe the feelings, thoughts and heavy hearts of her characters in such a way that makes you start to feel for them and worry about their impending fate. And she speaks of death and darkness in a way that makes you feel a sense of fright and fear as her stories unfold.

Mary is like a mystery to me one that I enjoy knowing and not knowing at the same time. I suggest you get to know her and her writing better by visiting the following links:
