Don’t mess with us, for we are Legion. Actually, I’m not Legion, they are: Dr. Spider C. Guffey, Terence Muncy, Lucy Van Horne, Master Legion and a throng of sexy sassy lasses and hard core lads. These are the folks that make up Legion Studios.
Near half a decade ago, Ryan “Master Legion” Mojica put out a comic book called The Book of Legion. As with the way some things happen, the relationship with his initial publisher didn’t pan out. Boo. But, out of the Boo, Legion Studios and the revised “Ultimate Print” were born.
I got to explore an array of what Legion had to offer, from the ‘Book of Legion’s first two books (the second one carrying Tom Sullivan’s (you know, the Evil Dead guy) virgin comic story – as in first ever, not the no-sex-sacrificing kind…which I wouldn’t doubt if that existed in the Legion library somewhere), to ‘The Queen of Sin’, and lastly, ‘Master’s Devils (II)’, which is an introduction to the five lovely ladies of Legion Studios. This was both a fun, blood-soaked, fully-coloured, big-breasted, scantly clad, beyond bad girl romp of a comic story, and a red hot devil girl pin-up mag…and I’m talking about still shots of the ladies who were the inspiration for ‘The Master’s Devils’ themselves. Wicked vixens indeed!
Hot chicks? Oh yeah. Legion’s ‘The Queen of Sin’ books are chock full of hot chicks…actually, specifically one hot chick…Lillith: the first woman. The first two books show us, in a smart and nicely drawn Heavy Metal Bettie Page way, Lillith’s origin story…which is basically origin story ground zero being she was the first woman ever created …yes, that Lillith! This is not the first time we’ve met her though. She appeared in ‘Souled Out’, the first story in Legion’s, ‘The Second Coming‘, as a hard core modern day dominatrix., so you see, Lillith is eternal.
The story of Lillith’s creation was literally just the half of it. Once done, you’d flip the comic around and have a whole other story with its very own cover. There’s an inked hottie on one side, and a photo of a pin up beauty on the other…I’m thinking to myself, there is no wrong way to read this!
As a spiritual feminist, I was curious how I would feel about these books, and I have to say that I enjoyed them. Legion is filled with ‘the bad will be punished’ tales of misdeed introduced by a Tales from the Crypt crazy monk type narrator who is banished to pass the stories along to us heathens as a warning. And as for the ‘The Queen of Sin’, she is the ultimate feminist…she also happens to be the ultimate in eeeeviiilll! I’ve seen glimpses of Lillith in many a female. In fact, she may not have known who she was singing about, but Cherrie Blue’s ‘Psycho Bitch Sister’ has Lillith written all over it!
I dug these books more than I thought I would. The books themselves are very well done, from great artwork and layouts, to fun stories, to the paper they use. They are sturdy, well-dressed, visually popping pieces of fiction drawn to entice and allure, and that they did. So, the folks at Legion Studios, I salute you!! *sticks out tongue and pops up devil horn fingers*
