Consumption Review

Consumption is a short film from producer Zach Green. Its a tale of love, desperation, hopelessness, and above all… dinner. And this is not your average dinner we are talking about. Consumption starts off with a dinner date, a blind date of sorts, where one of only 2 characters in the film, a young woman, comes over for a dinner date. It seems like your average first date meeting. Nervousness, apprehension and a little tension between them. Although they have been talking with each other for a while over the internet, they seem a bit weary of each other and the situation they are in.

Dinner and drinks are served and conversation is had to make the situation a bit more tolerable. They seem to be getting to know each other better when the young woman takes a break and calls someone. After hearing the conversation its clear she is done, done with herself.

After a contract is signed at the dinner table, and a taped confessional of sorts…. well I dont want to ruin it for you.

Its a tale of where the victim is not really a victim but a willing participant of this situation. She knows that she is done with her life and everything around her, so instead of taking her own life, she allows someone else to do it.

This is a short film, around 35 minutes, and although its short, it is full of deep conversation and feeling. Both characters in the short do a great job of getting into the role and displaying exactly what people in this situation might be like. Its tense, character and conversation driven which to some may seem a bit slow paced. It is a bit slow to begin with but Zach Green does a good job of sticking to the story and moving it along just how it should be for this type of film. Its got intense acting and even more intense special effects for the last third of the film.

Many of the scenes in the end are very gory and very realistic. Very nice job with that. Its well put together and a great intense horror film that you dont get to see often. Its well written and packs a punch for the short time it plays.

If you are in the Chicago area check this film out at our festival, Summer Slaughter in July. I cant wait to see this on the big screen.
